It never crossed my mind, but Nigeria is the third largest film producer of the world after USA and India. But in March 2007 Gil Sasson called me and asked to appear on Tinapa sity opening - a new film studio in Calabar.
March 27. Our "convoy", six Israeli stuntmen, and 500 kg of equipment, left Israel for Nigeria. Well, we did not have a clue what is expecting us our there. The "meeting commission" consisted of local "young" stuntmen. They helped us a lot and took an real part in our activities.
Before “Tinapa” most film were shot on open terrain and cut in Surulere, Lagos. The new studio we saw looked like almost completed futuristic town, which were “polished” just prior our arrival. The central pavilion amazed us by unusual shape – wing spread eagle. Streets and street lamps were mounted just before our eyes!
Ever since morning till evening we were busy building show area, training together with Nigerian team and solving logistic problems. During one week we have managed to work through motorbike stunts, pyrotechnics, high-falls and fight-and-shoot stunts.
The Nigerian President was present on the opening ceremony together with a number of African businessmen who found the project together with "Dream Entertainment". All over the night we enjoyed the dancing shows, musician performances and all kind of showmen appearances, mostly local people. It was nice to see Israeli show-group “Aluminum”.
Our stunt performance went off smoothly. The President was pleased.
On the last day of our stay we got a pleasant surprise – a boat trip, among lost settlements and jungle.
